How prostitution is encouraged by police in mumbai

It was a beautiful saturday night and I was driving back home from a disc. I was passing by the juhu beach when I saw a lot of cheap prostitutes standing on the footpath, barely 1 km away from Juhu Police station.

I found it very strange that how fearless these girls are to be standing so close to the police station.

That is when I realised that police must be involved too, so I took a U-turn to check. When I reached that spot again, I witnessed a huge crowd and 3 people beating each other brutally. I stopped my car and asked an AUTO RICKSHAW guy. He told me one of these guys was teasing these prostitutes, so two of the Auto rickshaw guys ( apparently pimps of those prostitutes) started beating him with hockey sticks. And let me remind you, all this was happening only a KM away from police station and that too when post midnight, a lot of police jeeps are on the road.

Nobody was helping the guy who was being bled to death. I went to that police station and informed the officer on duty. He immediately went there with a few constables but came back without a single arrest. This came as another shock to me. Upon asking, he told me that they had resolved the fight among themselves. In short they must have bribed these policemen to keep their eyes shut.

So I asked him, how come these girls are carrying on flesh trade near the police station.

His response confirmed my doubts that these people are involved too. He said whenever we try to reach that spot and arrest them, they flee in the AUTOS. Such a lame reply from a senior inspector was enough to make me believe that they are bribed handsomely to ignore these girls and their activities.

First hand view of indian corruption

This being my first post, I would like to start with a personal experience.
I belong to a tier-2 city in Haryana known as Panipat. I was always good in studies. So post my class 10th result in 2005, I decided to take admission in Delhi, to be able to prepare for IIT-JEE in a better way. And it was decided that I will get enrolled in a school in NCR region itself, along with one of my classmates in Panipat.

One fine morning, me along with my friend and our mothers, decided to visit the school in Faridabad for the admission process. We had our driver with us. Entire process went smoothly and I was happy that I might be studying in such a big school soon.

It was already dark when we started back. It was a 3 hour journey till Panipat. We were all talking and enjoying the ride when suddenly the car in front of us applied brakes to make a sharp turn. And I am talking about national highway here. Our driver couldnt apply the de-accelerate as soon as required and as a result we banged into that car. Before I could realize what had just happened, i heard my mom crying and shouting. That is when I noticed that front glass of our car had broken and a few tiny bits clung to my forehead and made a few cuts. Blood was dropping like rain drops from all over my forehead.

A lot of people gathered around and in the meantime our driver fled from the accident spot, out of the fear of getting beaten up by the locals ( the other car was from that very town ). Nobody was ready to help us, not even the ploice guys who were standing close to the spot. Luckily, one of our ex-neighbours from panipat was passing by. He recognised us and took me to hospital while I had already lost considerable amount of blood. Luckily, we made it to the hospital in time and I got proper medical attention. In the meantime, my father was informed. He reached the hospital in an hour's time and being a doctor himself, had a quick word with the doctor of that hospital.

We didnt know that we have a big surprise waiting for us ahead. My father decided that it was better to take me to Panipat and get further medical assistance there itself. So we reached the accident spot to get our car towed. A group of policemen were standing there along with the other party in this accident and a few locals. One of the police guy told my father that your driver was at fault, that is why he fled. Now you need to pay this guy for his car damages and indicated that police needs its share too. My mother told the entire incident and argued that it wasn't our mistake and the other driver had applied sudden brakes in the fast moving lane of a national highway.

Now my father got heated up and made the following points :
  • How did you conclude that it was our mistake, without even hearing our version
  • Why wasn't any medical support provided from your end
  • Why should I pay him, his damages would be covered by insurance claim
  • Why should YOU be paid

After a lot of heated argument, my father had to give in, considering we had 2 ladies and a young girl in our group and we were standing in a village in the middle of the night. He paid 10000 INR to that guy and 5000 INR to the police.

The only mistake we made was that we didn't take this matter ahead and didn't file a complaint.

This is the sad state of our country where officers who are supposed to help people  are the ones expoiting them.

NEVER ENDING CORRUPTION
